How am I different from other tour guides? (Part 1)

Upon arrival, Mamu awaits them at the airport with a huge smile, a big hug and a small surprise. We know for sure that in many people there is a little greater fear, uncertainty when visiting a new country, a continent. Therefore, it is important that at the moment of arrival, they immediately receive confirmation: they are in good hands, we are there with them.

My first encounter with guests is practically like we've known each other for a thousand years. Phone conversations and email exchanges bring us closer together. Also familiar from my website is the slogan: “You come as a guest, you go home as a friend.”

In the car/minibus, we are already talking as if we had only met a few weeks ago and discuss what has happened since then. There is no tension, awkward silence, shyness. This has not been the case in the last five years.

They used to say that traveling with me is as if I were not even a tour guide, but that their best friend showed them the attractions of that place. We get excited about stories, I tell stories and they tell us about their previous journeys, which I love to listen to. Surprises await them along the way. Bali has a lot of traffic, so we spend a lot of time in the car/minibus, which is why I am preparing a lot to make the trip itself an experience until we reach our destinations. What they are, I will not tell you, should be a surprise.

During trips, I constantly monitor the reactions and behavior of my guests, because it is important for me that they are comfortable, have a good time and tell about things that interest them. There are several types of games that everyone enjoys very much. And there are also self-knowledge exercises, because I believe: in addition to visiting beautiful places and pampering our eyes, we must also pay attention to the happiness of our soul. These in any case acquire unforgettable moments for all of us.

When the group dynamics are already very well established, it happens that even during the day we fine-tune the programs to give our guests an even greater experience. And of course, there are many times when we prepare them with extra surprises that are not in the program description.

Let's move on to the hotels. Because it is very important that during the holiday guests are in a clean, comfortable and homely environment, where they can properly disconnect and relax. I am constantly testing the accommodation myself. And I check them every two months, because in Bali, for example, in very many cases even within this time the quality of the hotel, the rooms or the service can deteriorate significantly. In such cases, I notify the management and if I do not see a change within 1-2 weeks, I terminate the contract with the hotel. Recently, it is also common for construction to begin in the vicinity of a hotel, due to which there is constant noise and dust, which can interfere with guests' relaxation.

But what happens if I terminate the agreement, but there is already a reservation for my guests for this accommodation?

At this time, I discuss my concerns with the guests and offer them to change the reservation to the same (no extra charge) or higher category (for an additional fee). Unfortunately, in Bali, in 80-90% of cases, photos and reviews on the Internet do not reflect the real state of hotels. Also, the pictures do not show that there is a moldy, saltpeter or musty smell spreading in the room. In almost all cases, the photos were taken years or even 10 years before the hotel was built.

What is the best feedback for me is that more than two thirds of my guests return to me and entrust their next holidays to Bali, Komodo or Vietnam with me.
